"There's something about an Amazing Journeys vacation.  I had heard about them, read about them, even saw pictures about them...but there's nothing quite like experiencing one firsthand.  From my first phone call to my last e-mail, I was always treated in a patient, friendly and competent manner.  Meeting Malori & Bill was just another continuation of the friendly, totally organized service I was beginning to get accustomed to.  As my journey started and throughout my trip, the personal attention and personal touches, which unfolded, showed professionalism accompanied by a fun spirit."

Flying to New Zealand Still Traveling

Thursday,

November 2

Arrive Auckland Welcome to Auckland , New Zealand ’s largest city.  Known as “The City of Sails” Auckland is set on an isthmus between the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean .  A large Polynesian community provides a unique flavor of the South Pacific here in the commercial center of New Zealand .   Having completed arrival formalities at the airport, we will be transferred to our hotel.  Spend the day getting to know this wonderful city at leisure.  This evening, join your fellow travelers for an unforgettable experience at Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World. It was Mr. Tarlton's dream to display to the world marine life from a diver's perspective.  Take part in a 'behind the scenes' guided tour of Stingray Bay with a feeding, followed by a group orientation, cocktail reception & welcome dinner.  (D)

Friday,

November 3

Auckland This morning, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Auckland including America’s Cup Village, vibrant Queen Street, Auckland Harbour Bridge, spectacular views from the top of Mt. Eden (a dormant volcano), followed by the Tamaki waterfront and Waitemata Harbour.  This afternoon, experience the thrill and adventure of sailing as you gain an appreciation of why this challenging sport captivates so many New Zealanders.  Sit back and enjoy the ride or take the wheel and help the crew trim the sails as we cruise on the Pride of Auckland.  This evening, join us for a Shabbat Service followed by dinner.  Later this evening we have scheduled in free time so that you can enjoy Auckland by night by taking in America ’s Cup Village or other lively entertainment hot spots.  (B, D)

Auckland - Waitomo Caves - Rotorua

This morning we head south to Rotorua, a geothermal wonderland and the Maori cultural center of New Zealand . En route, we visit Waitomo, famous for its limestone caves.  The entire region is riddled with these caves and strange limestone formations.  We descend into the limestone caverns, where in small boats we journey along an underground river beneath a ceiling of sparkling glow-worms.  Traveling across the Mamake Ranges , we arrive in Rotorua this evening. (B)

Sunday,

November 5

Rotorua This morning we are in for a treat as we are taken to the Polynesian Spa, a historical hot mineral spring spa, overlooking Sulphur Bay on Lake Rotorua .  These "living waters" are responsible for many wonderful healing cures. Voted as one of the top ten spas in the world for its medical and thermal qualities by Conde Nast Traveler (2004 and 2005), relax in the thermal baths of the famous Spa.  There will be additional time given to schedule optional treatments for those who desire.  In the afternoon, we delve into the Maori culture with a visit to Te Puia Thermal Reserve in Whakarewarewa.  Bubbling, steaming silica terraces occur naturally here through geothermal activity. This is the spot in the world where the earths surface is at its thinnest!  The highlight of the thermal reserve is a very effusive Pohutu Geyser which usually erupts 10 – 25 times a day!

The very center of Polynesian Maori culture, these warm and charming people will welcome us to their active Maori settlement.  Here, they keep their customs alive by teaching the tribal youth the skills of traditional carving, weaving and dancing.  We’ll learn more about their unique culture as we partake in a demonstration about the importance of the Maori dress and weaving.  This evening we receive a traditional Maori welcome as we hongi (greet by pressing our noses together) with our host.  This tradition means we are a friend and may consider ourselves one of the family.  Next, enjoy a Hangi meal, followed by a traditional performance of songs, dances and other festivities as we see the fierce Haka (war dance), twirling of poi balls and stick games.  (B, D)

Rotorua - Queenstown

This morning we visit Rainbow Fairy Springs to view the local flora and fauna of New Zealand and have an opportunity to see the elusive kiwi bird before we depart for the South Island .    This afternoon we arrive in Queenstown, known for its breathtakingly beautiful scenery.  Deeply etched fjords, spectacular lakes, splendid mountains and sweeping bays are some of the words you’ll use to describe New Zealand ’s most famous natural attractions.  In addition, many of the worlds most thrilling adventures were invented here, including bungee jumping, paragliding, river surfing, luge riding, jet boating and more!  Are you ready to have the adventure of a lifetime?  There are also more relaxing activities here to keep you amazed and in awe. This evening we take the Skyline Gondola up to Bob’s Peak, where we will have a lavish five-course meal, surrounded by spectacular views overlooking Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkable Mountains . Don’t forget to bring your camera! (B, D)

This morning experience one of the adventures that originated in Queenstown, jet-boating! Aboard our Shotover Jetboat we’ll speed up the Shotover River , with the canyon walls towering over us with the wind in our faces!  This afternoon, we embark on the Safari of the Rings.  Traveling by 4x4, we’ll explore the surrounding landscape which was the backdrop for the famed 'Lord of the Rings' movies. Here, breathtaking views will amaze you at every stop! (B)

Queenstown - Milford Sound - Queenstown

Today will be a wonderful highlight as we journey to Fiordland National Park and Milford Sound.  Our coach will take us along the rugged grandeur of the Hollyford Valley as we travel through beech forest via the Homer Tunnel to Milford Sound.  The scenery is stunning with high mountains and deep valleys carved out by ice glaciers.  There are clear rushing mountain streams and waterfalls set amid magnificent rainforests with enormous trees, hundreds of years old. This afternoon, we’ll partake in a luncheon cruise on Milford Sound with breathtaking vistas at every turn.  Following our cruise, we return to Queenstown via a short flight (weather permitting) for spectacular views of New Zealand ’s Southern Alps . (B, L)

Thursday,
